Have you ever…

…spent endless hours trawling Pinterest and TPT (Teachers Pay Teachers) for the right resources to match the ever increasing demand of the curriculum?

Just made it to the holiday break but then spent half of it writing programs and preparing lessons?

Spent hours discovering the Science of Reading and Writing.....

Losing all sense of work/life balance, loving and resenting your job at the same time?

I get it.
I've been there.

20 years as a primary educator and seeing many amazing teachers burn out and leave the profession in the first five years, I felt a great desire to help rewrite this all too familiar story. I began my leadership journey in 2010 as a pedagogy coach. I became passionate about empowering primary teachers like you, in your important work of fostering young minds and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Working in both state and private education I could see that in the early primary years there were many commercial programs on the market that had some great components but it still took time to pull all the best parts out of the programs and align them with evidence based research, curriculum and quality pedagogy.

I searched for a program that had all the pieces to the teaching puzzle but couldn’t find it… and that’s when the seed was planted. We needed one quality program with high impact, well researched teaching practices  aligned to the Science of Reading and Writing and innovative new tools to enable us to teach with unprecedented success and to claim our weekends back.

Along my journey, I met Karyn Fua an educator and entrepreneur who shared the same passion and vision. Together we wanted to not only empower you as teachers but also give children around the world, the opportunities for a flying start in their learning. That’s where The Literacy Collective began….

The Number 1 prerequisite to fast track reading success

Teachers everywhere,
I take my hat off to you

After spending an unexpected stint assisting my sister in a Kindergarten classroom last year my life took a sharp turn. I became reacquainted with arguably the most important work on the planet – teaching children to read and write.

With very little programming in place and even fewer resources, it felt like we were starting from scratch. Add to the mix a number of high needs students and no budget for an aid. Sound familiar?

It’s been said that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ and out of that time an idea evolved that we knew would be a game changer in the teaching of literacy around the world.

By coding text using visual icons that children were familiar with (ie emojis), we were able to give students a tool that helped them accurately decode every word regardless of the complex spelling pattern. Working alongside pedagogy coach Camilla Occhipinti, we created a full literacy program using our emoji code as a visual prompt to help young learners in the full spectrum of literacy acquisition.

I ended my teaching stint with a new dream in my heart to create a hub where early years literacy teachers , like you, could access innovative and revolutionary new tools and quality mentoring to assist you in your work and to provide platforms where you can share your stories, your struggles and your successes.

Teachers, I honor your commitment and your struggles and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the difference you are making every day to over a billion children worldwide.
